Cult B-movie director Tim Ritter’s first film was the 8-mm slasher film DAY OF THE REAPER. Extreme and inventive gore effects highlight the otherwise amusing low-budget effort, the first indication of Ritter’s resourcefulness as a filmmaker. Five women on vacation in Florida are hunted by a twisted killer with cannibalistic tendencies. Will any of them survive? Ritter’s film was one of the first to be marketed direct-to-video by the director himself, helping set a precedent that changed the way independent films were distributed.

This is the trailer to the recent and now out of print limited re-release on video.

All the H.G. Lewis-inspired elements are in the trailer: extreme gore, babes in bikinis, exotic beach locales, and oh…did I mention babes in bikinis?

TRIVIA: This feature-length movie was shot while Ritter was just sixteen years old and in high school.

The transfer from super-8mm film to Beta video was done by projecting the images into a shoebox. The video camera was borrowed from Ritter’s high school library, so awesome to see our tax dollars doing something good for a change!
