A TRIBUTE FOR US MEN AND WOMEN (Omaha Beach)
At the conclusion of the fighting in Normandy, there were more than ten American cemeteries on the battlefield, with hundreds of small burial grounds and isolated graves. The American Battle Monuments Commission (AMBC) repatriated at least 60% of these burials back to the United States, and concentrated the remaining casualties into two main cemeteries; one here in Normandy and another in Britanny.
To a size of 172.5 acres, the Normandy American Cemetery has 9,387 burials of US service men and women. Of this number, some 307 are unknowns, three are Medal of Honour winners (see below) and four are women. In addition there are 33 pairs of brothers buried side by side. It is the largest American Cemetery from WW2, but not the largest in Europe: that is the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery from WW1 with more than 14,000 burials.
The main body of the cemetery is rectangular with the main paths laid out in the pattern of a Latin cross. On entering the cemetery, visit first the Visitors Building where veterans can sign the Veteran’s Book, and all others the main Visitors Book. Here you can also trace US servicemen and women who are in the care of AMBC either in cemeteries or on memorials.

Day Of The Reaper Trailer
Cult B-movie director Tim Ritter’s first film was the 8-mm slasher film DAY OF THE REAPER. Extreme and inventive gore effects highlight the otherwise amusing low-budget effort, the first indication of Ritter’s resourcefulness as a filmmaker. Five women on vacation in Florida are hunted by a twisted killer with cannibalistic tendencies. Will any of them survive? Ritter’s film was one of the first to be marketed direct-to-video by the director himself, helping set a precedent that changed the way independent films were distributed.
This is the trailer to the recent and now out of print limited re-release on video.
All the H.G. Lewis-inspired elements are in the trailer: extreme gore, babes in bikinis, exotic beach locales, and oh…did I mention babes in bikinis?
TRIVIA: This feature-length movie was shot while Ritter was just sixteen years old and in high school.
The transfer from super-8mm film to Beta video was done by projecting the images into a shoebox. The video camera was borrowed from Ritter’s high school library, so awesome to see our tax dollars doing something good for a change!

How Deep The Father’s Love For Us
Song by Sarah Sadler. Many of the ocean pictures were taken at Kalaloch Beach in the Olympic National Park. It’s hard not to stand at the edge of an ocean without appreciating the love of The Father. The lake at the start of the video is Lake Crescent, a glacial lake. It was for a long time considered bottomless but modern technology has discovered that it is 624 feet deep. The depth of our Father’s love for us is beyond measuring by man.

A few words to say about Odessa sights and night life not to forget what most of the backpackers come for: Shevchenko Park (cultural area); Sea coast; Potyomkin Staircase (mostly referred as the battle spot), Primorskiy Boulvd, Deribaska str; 411 Memorial Battery (dedicated to WW2, The Great War of 1941-1945); Dolphin park – Lanzheron beach; Arcadia beach & Night clubs; Preobrazhenskiy Monastery; Literature, Archaeological, Western & Eastern Arts Museums; Opera House, Russian Drama Theatre, Ukrainian Drama Theatre, Philarmony. And all of the places still remain the same as they were in Soviet age which every mature Odessan recalls with a warm smile on their face.
Let’s talk about night clubs. Yo; Fidel; Palladium; Hali Gali. Average age attended: 18-45, face control enabled. Establishments are mostly friendly and hospitable. A good place to dance, POP and electron music lovers.
Bowl/billiards places: Odin; Mexico; Profy – 24/7 service. Playing tables reservation, bars, saunas, exotic massage starting from Russian ending up Thai and Chinese techniques.
And, at last, beaches. We know a few now and let’s sum up our nice tour with the most sceneric areas of the coastal area. Arcadia; Delphin; Gold Coast; Karolino Bugaz – resort area, entertainment base, hotels, summer night clubs, pools. Shrewd Odessans will make you feel comfortable as long as you have the budget set up.
Destination guides also recommend the following sights Sofievka, Uman park; Ascania Nova, wild animal reserves; Vilkovo, Odessa Venice (excursion includes boat walks, meat and champagne lunch and some rest times to spend with the locals).
Bottom line for Odessa attractions. Odessa in Ukraine has been always noticed about in various, still fun and amazing in Memoirs by Isaak Babel, Vorontsov (whose stone monument remains standing high above the Odessa buildings), who’s put a lot effort into architecture and building of the hero city of Odessa.
